Hasan Onur Keles, PhD, is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Ankara University. He received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from University of Houston in 2015. He did his postdoc at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School between 2015-2017. He visited several universities as a visiting researcher including Lubeck University, Dankook University and Xi’an Jiatong University. Dr. Keles was a Vice Dean of Engineering at Istinye University between 2018-2020. He led the effort the establish the new engineering school.

Dr. Keleş has obtained training in a number of disciplines including neuroscience, neuroergonomics and nano- and micro scale technologies. During his stay at Harvard Medical School and University of Houston, he had the opportunity to apply his background in engineering to biology and medicine. His main research area is the decoding of human mental states by using fNIRS, EEG and multimodal functional neuroimaging, with an emphasis on noninvasive, portable techniques. He is also interested in human-computer interaction and surgery education. He has taught numerous courses on biomedical engineering.Dr. Keles has authored/co-authored many papers in high respected journals, including Neural Enginereing, Neuroimaging, PlosOne, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, Lab on a Chip and Biosensors&Bioelectronics. 

During his research career, He has also been involved with mentoring young scientists (from high school to graduate school) to become versed in interdisciplinary research and help them get involved with the basics of team-based studies training them to attach challenges aiming to solve today’s and tomorrow’s medical problems. He has mentored more than 20 undergraduate/graduate students while at Harvard/MIT, Houston, Istinye University and Ankara University.
